HEMP WEAR BENEFITS

  • Hemp clothing absorbs and releases perspiration quickly and breathes well.
  • Is naturally anti-microbial making less susceptible to mould and mildew.
  • Holds up to repeated washings and never needs dry cleaning
  • Absorbs dye and retains colour well
  • Gets softer the more it’s washed and worn.
  • And is an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic fabrics.

WASHING AND CARE

  • Hemp clothing is easy to care for and tolerates hot water temperatures well.
(We recommend washing cold to minimise impacts on the environment.)
  • Food and dirt stains are no problem. Let some (eco-friendly) laundry soap sit on the spot for a few minutes before washing.
  • Depending upon its fabrication, your hemp clothing may need to be touched up with a hot iron. Although hemp grows softer with laundering and wear, ironing becomes less and less critical. (Wrinkles in the fabric can usually be dealt with by merely spritzing them with water and left to hang until dry. We also recommend air drying in a shaded area as its air dying is better on the environment and the longevity of the garment).

WHY IS HEMP FABRIC BETTER THAN ALTERNATIVE FABRICS?

  • Cotton needs about 50 percent more water per season than hemp, which can grow with little irrigation.
  • Growing cotton accounts for a significant portion of the pesticides and insecticides sprayed on the world’s crops. Because of this extensive use, cotton has negative impacts on human health, surrounding waterways and worker safety.
  • Synthetic fabrics like Nylon, Polyester, Acrylic and Spandex are made from plastics and can take up to 200 years to decompose.
  • Polyester and other petroleum-based synthetic fabrics take a great deal of energy to extract the oil required to make it resulting in a massive amount of carbon dioxide emission.

HEMPS ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

  • Unlike synthetic fabrics hemp will ultimately break down when it’s lost or disposed.
  • Hemp is an exceptional crop for absorbing CO2 out of the atmosphere; this is because of the amount of carbon it takes for rapid growth, as hemp is an extremely fast-growing crop.
  • Hemp requires little water and no need for pesticides or herbicides.
  • During the growth process of hemp, deep roots anchor and naturally aerate the soil; this means manual aeration of the land after harvest is not needed as often, cutting down the use of machinery.
  • When harvested the remaining plant matter can return up to 60% of the nutrients taken from the soil, again cutting down the need for machinery and products that may contain synthetic materials.
  • Hemp produces more fibre per acre than trees, cotton or flax, making the crop one of the most highest yielding and sustainable crops in the world.
